The Reality of Vocational Education in Jordan: Between Achievements and Challenges
Abstract
This research paper sheds light on the reality of vocational education in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, reviewing the sector's most notable achievements and the challenges it continues to face in its pursuit of development goals. The study assesses the extent to which vocational and technical education contributes to meeting labor market needs and equipping youth with the necessary skills. The paper also reviews the various government efforts and initiatives aimed at developing this type of education, improving its quality, and aligning it with the changing requirements of the national economy.
The Jordanian economy has not recently witnessed any significant increase in economic growth, and unemployment rates are continuing to rise, especially among young people. In light of this, the solution to this bottleneck is to expand vocational and technical education to create sustainable development and open new horizons for youth.
In addition, the study analyzes the main challenges hindering the effective expansion of vocational education in Jordan, such as negative societal stereotypes, limited available resources, and weak partnerships between vocational education and training institutions and the industrial sector. The paper concludes with a set of recommendations and proposals that can contribute to enhancing the role of vocational education in achieving sustainable development and meeting the aspirations of Jordanian youth.
