The Role of Electronic Social Networks in Promoting Democratic Values in Education among Palestinian University Students in the Gaza Strip "A Case Study of Al-Azhar University"
Abstract
This study aimed to identify the role of online social networking to promote the values of democracy for education among Palestinian university students in Gaza province, "Al-Azhar University" from their point of view.
The study population consisted of Azhar University students, who enrolled in the second semester of the academic year (2012-2013), totaling (11,786) students, (5442) male, and (6344) females, and researcher followed the descriptive analytical method the study applied on a random sample of consisted of (400) students.
The study found the following results:
- The results of this study show that "Face Book" followed by "You Tube" and " are the highest online social networking while Twitter " is lower.
- Proven results of this study that the values of democracy has been strengthened through online social networking incredibly good relative weight (58.2%) of the estimate of the sample, and ranked dimensions of democratic values and the discretion of the respondents about the role of social networking as follows "values political participation" got the first level relative weight (61.8%), while the "values of intellectual freedom" came second, respectively relative weight (60.2%), followed by "values of social justice" relative weight (59.2%), followed by "the values of tolerance" relative weight (55.6%) , followed by "the values of equality," which got the latter class relative weight (54%).
The study recommended the following:
- The need to integrate the efforts of everyone through coordination and cooperation to find a general strategy seeks to promote the values of democracy for breeding, and awareness of its importance and compel all educational institutions regular schools, universities, institutes and colleges, and informal institutions of the media, political parties, and civil society organizations to work within programs to promote the values of democracy for breeding.
