The Impact of Neoliberalism on Family Roles in Vulnerable Areas: From Spatial Marginalization to the Disintegration of Bonds (Case of the Lower Ziz Oasis)
Abstract
The fragility of the social space and the impact of neoliberalism on the family significantly contribute to promoting individualistic values and competition at the expense of solidarity and social stability. With increasing economic pressures and market liberalization, families are becoming more focused on achieving personal and material success, leading to the marginalization and disintegration of traditional family bonds.
Through this article, we aim to highlight the neoliberal policies that have led to the reduction of social services and the increasing suffering and fragility of families, whose interactive relationships have weakened, resulting in poor communication among their members—the foundation of their structure. These policies have also contributed to the weakening of family roles and social ties, making families more fragile in supporting their members in facing economic challenges.
