Abstract

This study aimed to examine the current practice of leadership styles at Taimah General Hospital and their impact on organizational commitment from the employees’ perspective. The study employed a descriptive research design and utilized a structured questionnaire consisting of three sections: a demographic information form, a leadership styles scale including transformational, transactional, and laissez-faire styles, and an organizational commitment scale. The questionnaire was distributed to a convenience sample of 265 hospital employees. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The findings revealed that the level of transformational leadership practice at Taimah General Hospital was high, with a percentage of 75%, making it the most prevalent style. Transactional leadership followed with a high level of 72.25%, ranking second, while laissez-faire leadership was the least practiced at 38%. The results also indicated a statistically significant positive effect of transformational and transactional leadership on organizational commitment, whereas laissez-faire leadership had a statistically significant negative effect. Furthermore, transformational leadership was found to have the strongest impact on organizational commitment, followed by transactional leadership, and lastly, laissez-faire leadership. Based on these findings, the study presented several recommendations and proposed directions for future research.
