Published: 2026-04-29

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the impact of displacement on the economic and social conditions in El Obeid City during the period from April 2023 to December 2025, in the context of the ongoing war in Sudan. The study adopted a descriptive–analytical approach based on a review of official reports issued by relevant authorities to assess the scale of displacement and its various consequences. The findings revealed that the rapid influx of large numbers of internally displaced persons into El Obeid exerted significant pressure on the local economy, reflected in rising prices of basic commodities and declining employment opportunities, in addition to increased economic burdens on host families. The displacement also led to noticeable social changes, including pressure on educational and health services, challenges related to housing and social adaptation, alongside the emergence of forms of community solidarity. The study concludes that the impacts of displacement require more effective interventions and stronger coordination among governmental institutions, humanitarian organizations, and the local community in order to mitigate negative effects and promote economic and social stability in El Obeid City.
